Secondary Foundations Outdoors is the perfect training to help you make the most of your outdoor spaces, building your staff skills and confidence. This course is ideal for teachers looking to take their first lessons outdoors, and schools who wish to start the journey towards a whole school approach to outdoor learning and play.

Working across year groups – and the whole curriculum – we will explore opportunities for quality outdoor learning to complement existing learning within your setting. The course involves the whole staff team, building on their ideas, assessing their current practice, and addressing common obstacles to delivering effective outdoor learning in a secondary school.

Content

The Secondary Foundations Outdoors course structure covers the following: 

  • Exploring the reasons for taking learning and teaching outdoors, including how it can benefit both pupils and teachers
  • Trying out simple, cost effective, tried and tested lesson ideas to bring all areas of the curriculum to life, improving the learning process
  • Looking at how other schools have taken lessons outdoors across topics and age groups
  • Spending time considering how to deliver more regular and higher quality outdoor learning among all the teaching and classroom support staff in your school

This is a full day, practical course with elements of group work in the classroom, but a significant proportion is outdoors. This includes periods of activity and standing, and being outdoors in all weather for extended periods. Please come dressed for the weather and conditions. 

A dated certificate of attendance will be provided to all attendees by email.

Booking

Please note that this course is designed to be delivered as a full day session, although the same content can also be delivered across two half day sessions or three twilight sessions. Alternatively, we can run shorter versions of the training in a half day or twilight session.

The costs below are based on one trainer delivering training for up to 20 staff. For larger numbers of staff, we can provide extra trainers for an additional cost.
