Using the rich stimulus of the outdoor environment, Early Years Literacy Outdoors looks at creating spaces and professional practice that encourage conversation, cooperative play, and imagination in young children. Tailored to either EYFS Literacy or CfE Literacy, this course is ideal for an early years setting (or group of settings) looking to explore the opportunities that outdoor spaces offer for early literacy learning.

Content

The Early Years Literacy Outdoors course structure covers the following:

  • Developing outdoor spaces using low cost, flexible or natural resources that support literacy development
  • Exploring a variety of games, activities, and behaviours that encourage literacy development
  • Building confidence and staff skills in facilitating literacy through play

This is a full day, practical course with elements of group work in the classroom, but a significant proportion is outdoors. This includes periods of activity and standing, and being outdoors in all weather for extended periods. Please come dressed for the weather and conditions.

A dated certificate of attendance will be provided to all attendees by email.

Booking

Please note that this course is designed to be delivered as a full day session, although the same content can also be delivered across two half day sessions or three twilight sessions. Alternatively, we can run shorter versions of the training in a half day or twilight session. This training can also be combined with other training courses, such as Early Years Foundations Outdoors or Early Years Maths Outdoors.

The costs below are based on one trainer delivering training for up to 20 staff. For larger numbers of staff, we can provide extra trainers for an additional cost.
