Case Studies
The Climate Ready School Grounds was created to help schools adapt their outdoor spaces to mitigate the impacts of climate change, focussing on six technical areas. On this page, you will find a variety of case studies and action plans from schools involved in the project and a range of other schools and organisations taking forward climate ready school grounds.Â

Climate Champions Initiative
Dumfries and Galloway Council collaborated with Keep Scotland Beautiful to deliver training and support for teachers. Teachers took part in a series of twilight sessions around carbon literacy and then cascaded the learning out to other colleagues.
Climate Ambassadors
Sixth formers from across Stirling Council schools have been meeting to develop and lead climate-related projects in their schools and local communities. Although everyone collaborated closely, pupils at each school developed responses which they felt most appropriate to their community.Â
Outdoor Learning Hub and ‘Wee Forest’
Queen Margaret University took what was already a modern ‘green space’ and created a space to enrich students learning, connect with communities and provide an exemplar for any school of what is possible. The space provides hands on learning opportunities around national and global concerns in education, sustainability, climate and health.Â
Dunblane Primary
Pupils from Dunblane Primary decided to respond to the impact of climate change on the pollinators found in their school grounds. They undertook practical work in the school grounds with the support of parents and local organisations and saw wonderful results.Â
Levenmouth Academy
Led by pupil support teacher, Duncan Zuill, pupils at Levenmouth Academy reclaimed 5 acres of unused school grounds – and transformed them into a nature filled classroom for everyone in the school.Â
Action Plans
These Action Plans were generated with the Climate Ready School Grounds partner schools through their workshops. Browse our Climate Ready School Grounds resources to find out more about how to deliver your own workshops or continue to read about each school’s plans below.
