Our Advisory Visits support nurseries, primary schools, and secondary schools to make the very best use of their outdoor spaces for learning and play. Whether you’re looking to enhance everyday practice, plan for future development, or begin a wider transformation of your grounds, our experienced consultants provide tailored advice that helps you move forward with confidence.

Outdoor spaces have enormous potential to enrich children’s learning, wellbeing, and play. With the right guidance, small changes can have a powerful long‑term impact on how your grounds are used by staff and pupils every day.

Who this service is for

Our Advisory Visit service is ideal for:

  • Nurseries developing or re‑energising outdoor provision or seeking to strengthen outdoor pedagogy and daily practice.
  • Primary and secondary schools looking to improve the quality, functionality, and inclusivity of their outdoor spaces, and to better support outdoor learning and play across the curriculum.
  • Settings planning future development, wanting a clear, practical steer before committing to significant investment or design work.

What to expect

Every Advisory Visit is tailored to your setting’s needs, vision, and current use of outdoor space. While each visit is unique, most follow this structure:

Before the visit

We will:

  • Discuss your priorities, focus areas, and any specific challenges.
  • Agree timings, the level of consultation, and who will be involved.
  • Request any relevant audits or background information in advance.
  • Set clear expectations for outcomes and next steps.

During the visit

Your consultant will typically:

  • Meet with leadership to understand your context, aims, and vision.
  • Tour the outdoor space, observing how it is currently used.
  • Consult with a broad range of representatives — staff, pupils, and, where possible, parents or other community members.
  • Use group discussions, observations, and practical workshop activities to gather insight and spark ideas.
  • Consider both space and practice, identifying opportunities for improvement in each.

Nurseries may involve early years teams, parents, and children in playful consultation activities; schools may include Eco Committees, pupil councils, or class groups as part of the process.

After the visit

You will receive either:

  • A follow up email summary with tailored recommendations, or
  • An extended written report, gathering together observations, feedback from the school community, and clear next steps for development.

The report can support internal planning, conversations with governors or parent groups, and future funding or development work.

What the visit will help you achieve

An Advisory Visit will support your setting to:

  • Develop clear priorities for improving your outdoor space.
  • Identify practical, achievable ways to strengthen outdoor learning and play.
  • Understand how your space is used by the whole community, and where barriers or opportunities exist.
  • Build a shared vision for development that can guide future planning and investment.
  • Improve confidence and consistency in using outdoor spaces for learning, play, and wellbeing.
